Encapsulant Foils

The transparent encapsulant material used for embedding the solar cells is a key component in almost all PV modules, which are assembled in the following manner:

(1) protective front layer (typically glass)
(2) first transparent encapsulant layer (typically EVA based)
(3) solar cells with their connectors
(4) second transparent encapsulant layer (typically EVA based)
(5) back sheet to insulate the modules.



Crystalline silicon modules usually contain two layers of encapsulant (above and below the cells); thin film modules usually contain one layer (as the photoactive layer already has been deposited directly on the front or backsheet).

After the lamination process the encapsulant keeps the solar cell matrix firmly in place, protects it against water ingression, and holds the complete PV module together. A high quality encapsulant is of utmost importance to assure durability and efficiency of the solar module. To avoid output power loss through aging, both its transparency and adhesion properties must remain stable over the entire lifespan of the module.

Both foils can be used as a ‘drop in’ solution without any need to change current operating conditions of the module manufacturer. Our products meet current industry standards as supported by TUV testing (ongoing).
